Drum Set Jury Guidelines

 

All pieces must be approved prior to the jury date by your major instructor.  Bring two completed jury forms to your jury.

 

MUS 107A & MUS 108A

 

Teacher approved performance piece

 

Level 1 – Swing

 

The jury is a live performance of one approved swing tune with live accompaniment.  Arrangement should be less than 4 minutes and include: head; accompany at least one solo; drum set solo over form; head repeats.  

 

Level 2 – Swing and Cha-cha-chá

 

The jury is a live performance of one approved swing tune with live accompaniment.  Arrangement should be less than 4 minutes and include: head; accompany at least one solo; drum set solo over form; head repeats.  

 

And, a live performance of one approved Cha-cha-chá with live accompaniment.  Arrangement should be less than 3 minutes and include: head; accompany at least one solo; head repeats.  

 

Level 3 – Up-Tempo and Brazilian

 

The jury is a live performance of one approved up-tempo swing tune with live accompaniment.  Arrangement should be less than 4 minutes and include: head; accompany at least one solo; drum set solo over form; head repeats.  

 

And, a live performance of one approved bossa nova or samba with live accompaniment.  Arrangement should be less than 3 minutes and include: head; accompany at least one solo; head repeats.  

 

Level 4 – Transcription by student

 

The jury is a live performance of one approved arrangement with live accompaniment.  Arrangement should be less than 5 minutes and include: head; accompany at least one solo; transcribed drum set solo; head repeats.
