Music Convocation
Goal Statement:
- Provide professional concerts to help build
strong professional music attitudes concerning repertoire and performance.
- Provide performing opportunities for soloists
or groups presenting professional level concerts.
- To raise the level of professional musical
consciousness for many performing mediums and styles.
Course Objective:
- Interpret professional performance attitudes
of visiting professional soloists and ensembles presented by the music
department (i.e. Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Tri-Cities Opera Company,
etc.)
- Interpret professional performance attitudes
of fellow students, performing visiting faculty and OCC Music faculty.
- Describe performance styles in relation to
specific performances.
- Participate (at selected times by instructor)
in Music Department sponsored concerts for professional performance
attitudes and for recruitment purposes.
Evaluation:
- Attendance is required at 75% of scheduled
convocations.
- Scheduled and unscheduled verbal/written
quizzes on specific concerts as required by individual applied major
instructors.
Percentages of above areas shall be determined by
instructor and presented to student in writing during the first week of
class. Any changes, additions, or
deletions in the evaluation must be done in writing to the student before the
changes go into effect.
Convocation is a
pass/fail class. You are expected to
attend 11 convocation concerts to pass. Tardiness
beyond 5 minutes cannot be excused and will be counted as an absence. You must attend the entire class to be
counted present and to receive credit.
There are no “make-up” concerts.
