ENG 104: Attendance Policy |
Perfect attendance is recommended, as something will happen in this class
every day. Absences will not be "excused" or "unexcused," because even "excused"
absences will cumulatively affect your classroom participation and writing
process. Your final grade may be lowered by one
full letter if you miss more than the following:
For a class that meets three times a week, nine classes.
For a class that meets twice a week, six classes.
For a class that meets once a week or for a summer session class, three
classes.
Every two tardies or early departures will be counted as one absence. Keep in mind that I take attendance at the very beginning of every class. If you do come in late and I am in the middle of a discussion, you can't be assured that you will marked as attending.
Extra credit on some assignments, while laudable, may not be able to "wipe out" extensive absences. Click here to see more specific guidelines regarding how absences will adversely affect your grade. Attendance Policy.
You are responsible for all material you miss if you arent in class. You may come to my office to discuss material you missed, but dont expect me to repeat a lecture or recap a discussion. Get notes from a classmate, then see me.
If you miss excessive classes, I will consider an administrative withdrawal. By all means let me know if you have a serious health problem and will be out for an extended period, so we can make special arrangements.
