ENG 104: Technology
Requirements

Webpage: This course page has BASIC information that is comparable to the paper syllabus handed out the first day.

ANGEL Course Management System: I utilize a virtual attendance and gradebook that can viewed throughout the semester through the Angel system Your user name is your initials and last name and your password is your date of birth. This password will never need to be changed. Link here for ANGEL (http://angel.sunyocc.edu). I will be utilizing this for course communication via announcements and course e-mail.

I also use ANGEL for some "mini" online quizes, for some explanatory lessons and shorter readings. It is your responsibility to ensure that you know how to get in and access these. By all means, feel free to download and print out the short stories and other short readings if you prefer to read on paper, rather than the screen.

Course E-Mail: You can ensure that course e-mails are forwarded to your preferred e-mail address. You can do this in Angel:

If you don't receive any e-mail from me during the course, it could because you did not adequately do the above steps. You can also check to make sure my e-mail isn't getting blocked by a spam filter internet settings. You can also check to make sure your mailbox isn't full. I make every effort to remain in contact with you during the semester, including sending out reminders about room changes or upcoming projects. It's your responsibility to ensure that this is working on your end.

English Department Computer Room: We will occasionally be meeting in the English Department Computer Room (A321).

H Drive: Wherever you are on campus, if you have logged on with your OCC network account and password, you will have access to a permanent drive that has dedicated, secure space for each student. You can, for example, start working on something in the English Department Computer Room and then finish it in Whitney or in Coulter. In the "save as" option, scroll down to your H drive account, which will read as your account name on student file server,  i.e.: g.w.bush on student file server. (It actually doesn't say "H drive.")

You can access your this drive from home using a "file transfer protocol." The college has made this much easiest to do. On OCC's homepage, click on "Student Homepage." In the second column you will see a heading, "Network Storage Space." Click on "Off-Campus Access" and you will be prompted to give your user name and password. You can then upload files to your "H" drive from home, or anywhere else.

Electronic Submission: I do accept homework submitted electronically only as an attached file in Microsoft Word, WordPerfect or rich text format (.rtf) submitted in the proper drop box in Angel. Homework submitted electronically must be done so PRIOR to the start of the class session when it is due.  Anything submitted after class will be considered one class period late.

I will not accept homework submitted in the body of an e-mail, since line spacing and margins cannot be properly formatted. Procedures for electronic submission through the Angel course management system will be reviewed during the first class session in the computer room.
